Centre for Sight introduces its latest technology

Cebu Daily News

True to its claim to bring your world into focus, the Centre for sight of Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital brings to Cebu the fastetst, most accurate and the best laser technology in the United States called the Allegretto Wave Eye-Q.

It is the latest and most advanced laser systems for refractive surgery for vision correction under the strictest conditions of safety and precision with fast and guaranteed results. It has less stress and discomfort to the patient, because at 400 treatment pulses per second, it only takes approximately four seconds of treatment to correct one diopter.

With this machine’s precision, speed and safety, it laser’s less tissue giving results right away, and also it doesn’t only improve one’s vision, it also prevents problems with night vision. The system has a unique eye-tracking system whick automatically adjusts to changes in pupil size during treatment.

This 30 million peso investment of Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital aims to provide the best service to Cebuanos, Filipinos and even to our neighbors in Asia, according to Dr. Yong Larrazabal, Chairman of the Larrazabal Eye Group. And this is also one of the services they are pushing for Medical Tourism sine it is og Global Standards, the same with famous hospitals in the United States for almost half the price.

The treatment profile for this laser was developed after intense stud of individuals who have what is called “super visiion”, or vision that is better than 20/20.

As of “Wavefront-optimized system”, the laser reshapes the cornea of your eye to mimic the pattern of your eyes with “super vision” with unparalleled customization, not only correcting the patient’s prescription but aiming to improve the “quality” of vision during daylight and prevent problems with night vision.

The Centre for Sight of the Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital has been giving people the chance to see again at 20/20 vision since 2002, and they have been recognized as one of the top three Refractive Surgery Centers in the Philippines and with the most procedures done outside Manila.

    • Subject: Cataract Surgery Cost & Info + our new Alcon Lensx femtosecond laser for cataract surgery ( No blade Cataract Surgery)

      Greetings!

There are currently two methods used to remove Cataracts: The traditional Phacoemulsification and Laser assisted Cataract Surgery. The details of each procedure are explained very well in the website. We were one of the few centers back in 1996 that started doing PHACO cataract procedures under topical anesthesia. We are currently doing nearly 2,000 cataract procedures yearly. Our average surgical time is between 4 to 7 minutes. It may however take longer in special cases. The procedure does not involve needles as we use only anesthetic drops to numb the eye. We do not also patch the eye post op. Instead, we provide protective eye goggles. The cost of procedure (Package) per eye for Standard Traditional Phaco is P35, 000 with standard foldable Intra Ocular Lens to be used. The package include all expenses including the Professional fee, Operating room charge, use of PHACO machine fee, Anesthesia, Lens implants and Medications including Eye drops. Phacoemulsification is commonly but erroneously referred to as “laser eye surgery.” While this procedure is currently the standard for cataract removal worldwide, it is NOT laser cataract surgery. True laser removal of cataracts was previously unavailable to patients, until very recently (see below on femtosecond cataract surgery).

If a patient is qualified for PhilHealth and Phil Senior Citizen either as a direct beneficiary or dependent, the cost would now cost P20,000 for Standard Traditional Phaco with standard foldable Intra Ocular Lens to be used. Premium lenses such as Multifocal lenses are also available at a higher value. If accredited is accredited with an affiliated HMO, He or She will only spend for the Lens implant used. (P10,000 for standard foldable Intra Ocular lens per eye). Affiliated HMOs include; Caritas, Medicard, Philcare, Medserve , EA Phils, Generali, Fortune Care, CAP, Blue Cross, Cocolife, HMI, MMG, I-Care and CDUH Healthcare. For Foreign Nationals, we do provide all the possible documents for reimbursement. Post op Checkup is one day and one month for uneventful cases.

For Premium Traditional packages with Premium lenses, these are the following:
ACRYSOF® IQ RESTOR® Multifocal IOL- designed to allow patients to see clearly at all distances without bifocals or reading glasses. Delivers a high level of glasses-free vision for cataract patients. Estimated price is P85, 000. 00 per eye.
ACRYSOF® IQ Aspheric Natural IOL- uses more advanced technology than traditional monofocal lenses. Result would be higher quality vision, more distinct images, finer resolution and greater capacity to recognize objects even in low- light conditions. Estimated price is P45, 000. 00 per eye.
ACRYSOF® IQ Toric aspheric IOL, which corrects for both conditions simultaneously by delivering precise astigmatic correction, predictable outcomes and quality distance vision without glasses for cataract patients with astigmatism. Estimated price per eye P65,000 per eye.
ACRYSOF® IQ RESTOR® Multifocal Toric lens – designed to allow patients to see clearly at all distances without bifocals or reading glasses simultaneously by delivering precise astigmatic correction, predictable outcomes and quality distance vision without glasses for cataract patients with astigmatism. Estimated price is P95,000 per eye.

Please take note while others will offer cheaper Premium Lenses, they are in fact not US FDA /BFAD approved thus quality cannot be assured.

*** please deduct P 15,000 for PhilHealth and Phil Senior Citizen and P10,000 more if with accredited HMO from above Premium Traditional Phaco***

      FEMTOSECOND LASER CATARACT SURGERY

In order to maintain our status as one of the most advanced eye facility in the country, we recently acquired the new Alcon LenSx – the first laser system approved by the U.S. FDA for cataract surgery. This system delivers an image guided computer precision that demonstrates an enhanced surgical ACCURACY and tremendous REPRODUCIBLITY. The Alcon LenSX femtosecond laser differs from the traditional methods of cataract surgery by the absence of the blade. By using very short yet intense bursts of near-infrared light, the Alcon LenSX femtosecond laser technology is able to create extremely precise subsurface cuts without manual intervention The blades used to create the small incisions in the eye have been completely replaced by this laser, making the incisions more precise and predictable. In addition, the circular opening that is created in the human lens in order to access the cataract (called a capsulotomy) which was traditionally performed by human hands has now been replaced by the femtosecond laser, making the capsulotomies more architecturally round and centered. Studies have shown that this is very important in intraocular lens stability and refractive predictability of surgical outcomes (In one study by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, femtosecond laser incisions achieved perfect capsulotomy diameter accuracy in 100 percent of cases). Finally, the actual cataract is also fragmented by the femtosecond laser making it much easier and less traumatic for the surgeon to remove and clean it up prior to placement of the IOL. In short, This has replaced many of the steps in the cataract surgery eliminating crucial steps in which may be prone to human error. It is safe, fast, precise and scalpel/blade FREE. Our total cost for our Laser assisted Cataract Surgery per eye is P35,000 for use of the machine. You simply add this amount to the package which you desire ( Standard or Premium package and of which type of premium lens) This the first and only unit in Visayas and Mindanao and only the 4th unit is in ASIA.
