Cebu Doctors makes waves in Manila race by Raffy Uytiepo (The Freeman, June 1, 2008)

Cebuano doctors served strong notice they are a force to reckon with in running after finishing strong in the “Takbo Para Sa Puso” race held at UP Diliman in Quezon City recently.

New York City Marathon veteran Dr. Yong Larrazabal submitted a time of 47 minutes and 47 seconds to finish third in the Medical Doctors (MD) 10K male category. Dr. Tommy Tan (a Cebuano based in Manila) placed fourth with a time of 48:03 while Dr. Glen Cang was fifth with a clocking of 49:49.

Dr. Emily Estrada crossed the finish line in 1:04:45 to take second place in the women’s category of the 10K run. Another Cebuana, Dr. Rosan Trani came in fourth with a timing of 1:11:17.

Another NY Marathon veteran Dr. Peter Mancao placed fifth in the male division of the 5K run with a time of 32:04.

“We will return next year with a vengeance,” said an ecstatic Larrazabal, who, together with Mancao will run in the Chicago Marathon this October.

Other Doctors who could carry the cudgels for Cebu are Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon veterans Vic Verallo, Nicole Chua and Albert Santos. On the other hand, Dr. Renald Ramiro and Dr. Abe Manlawe could also provide additional firepower for the Cebuanos.
