Getaruelas, Enriquez shine in 2nd University Run by Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (Monday, 20 August 2007)

Monday, August 20, 2007 Leizl Lumindas-Getaruelas and Riez Enriquez stole the show in the 2nd University Run…Run For Sight at the new Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) campus yesterday in Mandaue reclamation area. Getaruelas completed the grueling 13-kilometer race in 57 minutes and 28 seconds to clinch the women’s tiara, while Enriquez of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation bagged men’s crown – a relative improvement from his third place finish last year. Merlita Arias finished second in one hour and 27 seconds followed by Madelyn Carter in one hour and two minutes. Enriquez, on the other hand, was happy enough that defending champion Rogelio Reli did now show up and the reigning Cebu running king Mendel Lopez joined the race only for fun as he wants to relax before embarking on a tougher challenge in the Milo National Marathon finals. As expected, Enriquez had to deal roughly on Adonis Singson all throughout the action. Singson, however, could no longer sustain a neck-to-neck battle with Enriquez in the final 10 meters of the lung-busting contest. Enriquez logged in 46 minutes and 50 seconds, while Singson was just two seconds behind the champion. Reprinel Banzon also grabbed part of the limelight by landing third in 48 minutes and 20 seconds. The Sunday Runners Club also got a place in the podium after coming up with the biggest delegation. Timex won the best in uniform, while the Regional Training Center of the Philippine National Police was declared as the liveliest group by the organizing Run for Sight Foundation of Dr. Yong Larrazabal.
